Description

The listing, Golden Raintree (10 +) has ended.

A beautiful and widely adapted and trouble-free mid-sized tree. It's covered with small yellow flowers in spring, but the real show-stopper is the display of papery pink seedpods in the fall.

It grows easily from seed and is a very fast grower in warm to hot summer climates (see note below). It can grow to 40 ft high and wide, but usually stays smaller (most of the specimens here in CA are 20 - 25 ft high)

As to the name: It requires just the right conditions of flowers and a gentle breeze and sunlight, but the yellow petals falling sometimes create a breathtaking golden rain - hundreds of petals showering down.

The lucky winner of my auction will receive 15+ seeds.

Please note that this tree can be invasive - it has escaped cultivation in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida. Because it is a fast grower and has greater seed viability in warmer climates, it has the ability to crowd out desired native species. Do please consider this if you live in a warm climate. This is less of a problem further north - and many admire it for its rapid growth.

Also please note that this is NOT the 'golden chain tree' (laburnum).
