You know, I'm not sure. I did have them in once after I bought them (then realized they were too'pretty' for me) My ears are VERY sensitive and these didn't bother themat all

Being I cant see the stones from the back of the earrings, I'd say glued. But they are very secure. It even looks like there are a couple prongs on a few stones
