Description
The listing, Live 1yr. Old Green Globe Artichoke Plant has ended.
Enjoy 3-4 market size Chokes the first season. Dig hole at least 1 1/2 times larger than root system. Place good quality potting mix or compost in and around roots. Do not over bury plant. Mulch heavily and water plenty as the Artichoke requires a good deal of water. Fertilize every 3-4 weeks during the growing season with a good quality plant food.
Questions & Comments
Is it cold hardy? I miss the size of the artichokes and the avocados I use to get in CA. The ones we get here are so small, and expensive for their size.
According to "the Complete Book of Edible Landscaping" artichokes need cool moist summers and mild winters. In hot, early summers the buds open too soon and are tough. In areas with moderately cold winters, the plants (roots) can be protected from the cold by covering with an overturned basket full of straw or leaves. In very cold winter areas the roots should be brought in and kept moist. Artichokes can be grown in containers and moved around (in/out) as necessary. hope this helps!
