Yes it is. I was looking for other characters because my daughter wants me to do one for my yet unborn grandson. I can only get Elmo and Thomas... And I sold Elmo already.

it does take batteries. It comes with batteries and ready to use so I have no idea how long they last. I would image quite a bit. There is a tiny screw on the side to remove and put in new batteries. It takes 3 AAA's.
