The listing, OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE LAMP has ended.
This beautiful lamp is both an amazing piece of Folk Art as well as being a special Iconography object that celebrates the apparition of our Lady of Guadalupe to Don Antonio Valeriano, in 1531.
Just a brief over view of the Religious significance:
Our Lady of Guadalupe, appeared as an apparition to a Franciscan educated Aztec, Don Antonio Valeriano, 5 times in Mexico in 1531, give or take a year or so. This "life changing" vision, as a pregnant, Virgin, generated the conversion of over 8 million Aztecs to Catholicism in both Mexico & South America. This permanently implanted her image & spirit as a central figure to the History of that region. She is still known as The Mother of the America's".
The 3 most important Religious celebrations of that region are Christmas, Easter & December 12th, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, even today.
This lamp is nicely hand painted porcelain that shows an amazing amount of detail. It measures 8" tall x 3" wide. As shown in the photos,it has an early type light bulb adapter inserted in the bottom of the statue to make it a lamp. I'm not sure if this adaptation was a hand crafted development, or if it was made that way initially?? I also do not know it's origin or age. The plug style is not contemporary or very modern, as there is no"ground" portion on the plug. It works well & gives off a nice warm, reassuring glow. It would be a great eclectic addition to your "Shabby Chic" decor.
