If yours has the pin configuration that goes almost the full width of the hard drive, it should work.

Yes, I believe it is. It's the small version of hard drives they put in laptops.

Yes, it should. However, there may be a little "cage" or surround that you'll need to remove and put on the new drive.

Odds are good it will. But the best way to find out is to turn the thing over, locate the hard drive (could be under a plastic lid that's secured by a couple screws or slid in from one of the sides and secured that way). It's best to just go to your favorite search engine and ask, "location of hard drive on Compaq F700."

Just making sure this is is an IDE because the other person make the remark that it wasn't, and I definately need an IDE/PATA ( I believe they are the same) and judging from what I can make out of the pics, where you have the 20gb circled, I think it says there Pata/IDE, however the P letter I cant see. I'm just making sure it isn't a SATA. Also, just making sure that it is a Laptop Hard Drive. You said it is wiped, does it need to be partitioned, reformatted, before putting on an OS? And it is a good drive, no viruses or errors/bad sectors, yes? I'm really Sorry with all the questions, I hope your not irritated, I'm just trying to make sure I get the right thing. :) THAnk you for your time. :)

No problem with the questions. I welcome them to make sure the bidders are aware of what they are bidding on. Only makes sense. This is an IDE (parallel) drive, like the ones they made before the SATA (Serial) came out. I believe it is a 40-pin configuration that runs almost the width of the drive, as can be seen (kind of) in my picture. And no, there was no virus, and it was working fine until the screen went pixel up. I know that XP and many versions of Linux will load right up. The only reason I wiped it (used "Killdisk") was because of personal information. I hope this helps. Gary

So, if its wiped, it will have to be partitioned and reformatted for whatever your using it for...32bt, 64, or whatever. :)

I'm not a computer expert, but I imagine so. Keep in mind this was not a "low format" which destroys the drive as far as us consumers are concerned. If you'd like to find out more about how Killdisk performs its magic, check out "Active Killdisk" through your favorite search engine. Thanks for the question. Gary

Are there bad sectors in this hard drive? Does it function properly? thanks!

Killdisk indicated no bad sectors when it erased the drive. And yes, it functioned well before I removed it from my broken laptop. I just wanted to erase personal data. Gary

Greetings. Indeed, it should as long as your system takes an IDE drive. IDE drives were used in all laptops until the SATAs came out. I'm not sure when that was, but I'd guess mid-2000's, maybe 2006? Not sure. Turn your laptop over, look for an icon printed on a door held down with screws that looks like platters stacked up. This is a visual for hard drive compartment. Remove the screws and lift the cover. You should be able to remove the drive -- gracefully, please. Then look at the pin hookup. If it looks like the one in my picture, it will work. Good luck in bidding. Gary
