sirius xm system only works if you have siri network in your car, correct?

This system is for older cars that did not come with Sirius. It just plugs into a auxilary jack. You would have subscribe to XM Radio which is curently about $9 a month.

I have a 2004. is that old enough? and if I dont have an aux jack do I need to put 1 in?

If your stereo doesn't have an auxiliary jack, it will work through your stereo's FM receiver.
