The listing, Two 1943 WAR PENNIES has ended.
Offering two 1943 War Pennies, in original condition. One from the Philladelphi Mint, and one from the San Francisco Mint. The 1943 silver colored penny is a wartime issue made of steel, and coated with zinc. During World War II, copper was so badly needed for the war effort (to make shell casings) that the U.S. penny was made out of steel that year, which is why most 1943 pennies are silver colored. The steel cent is the only regular-issue United States coin that can be picked up with a magnet. The steel cent was also the only coin issued by the United States for circulation that does not contain any copper, these coins are not rare, they were often collected by the public because of the novelty thus many 1943 Steelie's can be found in Original Mint State today.
