The listing, Used U.S. Stamp #1121 4¢ Noah Webster-Possible Free Shipping has ended.

A 4-cent stamp commemorating the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of Noah Webster was issued in West Hartford, Connecticut, on October 16, 1958. The noted lexicographer was born in West Hartford in 1758.

With his memorable works, "American Spelling Book (1783)" and "American Dictionary of the English Language," Webster is largely responsible for the differences that exist today between British and US spelling. His principle was that spelling, grammar, and usage should be based upon the living language. Webster also contributed as a teacher, journalist, lecturer, and lobbyist to protect his literary efforts and uniform copyright laws among the various states.
