Up for auction is this gorgeous sterling silver ring size 8, stamped 925. The three prong band supports one large oval cut white sapphire. Many round cut white sapphires surround the main stone. These stones are laboratory created.

These types of gemstones are created in a lab, but their properties, chemical, optical and physical, are identical to that of naturally occurring stones. Of course, they are much less expensive than those from the ground.
Man made gems are much hardier than their naturally occurring cousins, not so subject to temperature change, drying out, cracking or grazing. They can be, however, as expensive as the natural stone, due to the long growing process (up to 2 years!).
