You can test Bakelite in two ways, one is to heat it up with your fingers it will give off a distinct chemical smell. Another is to use a bit of simichrome polish on a q-tip, it will leave a yellow coloring on the q-tip because as Bakelite ages it oxidizes and turns yellow :)

What is simichrome? Can you get it anywhere? Thanks for the info. I love learning more about jewelry. I never liked bakelite but I know a lot of people collect it.

You can get simichrome on amazon or most home repair shops like Lowe's :)

I am so glad people love this piece. I didn't see the beauty! LOL! Must be a bakelite thing. I am thankful for those who helped me learn about Bakelite.
I just knew it was old from the clasp.
