Description

The listing, Arizona Turquoise Nuggets Vintage Necklace has ended.

This lovely piece boasts lucky number thirteen genuine turquoise nuggets ranging in size up to 3/4" in diameter. They are accented by beads of coffee, sand and chocolate. The piece is approximately 21" in circumference and has an old style hook and eye. Very vintage.

My late mother used to frequent trading posts and flea markets from the late 40s/early 50s through the 70s in northern Arizona, in her hunt for Native American treasures, jewelry and curiosities. I'm continuing to clean out boxes whenever I get the energy, and finding some lovely things of hers. I'm not sure exactly where she picked this one up but it was nice enough to keep throughout the decades since.

Shipping is FREE in the US with First Class tracking. Once you provide your verified address (Listia rules apply) then I will ship out your item on the next postal day and give you the tracking number that same evening. You'll always know when your item will arrive.

Thank you for viewing my listing, and happy bidding.

So very sorry that that happened, but I hope you can start to rebuild. I think I have a few more that I will be putting up in the next couple weeks. I've fanned you back; good luck.

This looks to me to be from the '70's--especially when I look at the clasp--I wish I had my turquoise necklace that I sold back then to take a trip to Mexico with my Hippie boyfriend--we drove all the way from Berkeley CA to Mexico City--then we hung a right turn and drove across the border into Brownsville Texas and up to Dallas! Then we drove from Dallas Texas back to Berkeley CA. It was quit a trip back then in the '70's! Was a hippie then and am still a Hippie! Hippies rock! Road trips! Another time when we were in Dallas we bought a VW pick up truck--a classic! We got stopped by the Texas Rangers in Lubbock Texas (he had long hair--for sure we would get pulled over--youngsters don't realize what it was like back then!--you could get big time jail time for the least little thing if you know what I mean--btw--Lubbock Texas is the birthplace of Buddy Holly. The Texas Rangers made us go to court right then and there and I think they called up the judge from his house too! When the judge said we didn't have this dinky sticker on the van he gave us a fine that would have taken all our money! So my boyfriend at the time asked the judge how much jail time was that (wow--I was so proud of him then for standing up to judge!) the Texas Rangers all seemed like the height requirement was 7 ft. tall and wore BIG cowboy hats and BIG boots! The judge said he would just reduce the fine! They just wanted our Hippie money but wanted us gone! We paid it and skedaddled! --it was not like it is now believe you me! Some people felt Hippies were only good for target practice! Been there! Got the tie-dyed T shirt! How's this for chatty? :-)

Great story, buster. Yeah, those small towns can be killers. It reminds me of a song that went, "and maybe the next time, he'll walk by and say hi, and say hi, instead of why." Gosh, can't remember the name of that.

You may be right about the necklace; no idea when this was acquired, except that it was purchased in Arizona and has to predate 1980, because that's when she lost her mobility and quit buying. Actually, mom never had a license. She drove for 40 years, off and on, without one, but she finally had to stop when she hit 60. She just couldn't see that well anymore. In the early 80s, she started her new obsession as a coupon queen. She'd walk to the store and get $50 worth of groceries for 5 or 6 bucks. Everyone knew her; she was the lady with the bright blue rolling shopping cart. (I still have that cart in my garage.) After she couldn't push a cart anymore, we drove her to the store and she supplied us in free toothpaste and soap, etc, that she got with coupons. I don't think we bought toothpaste for at least 5 years, lol.

Thanks! 13 was always lucky for me. My name on that big auction site (don't know if we're allowed to mention it) used to be Katybug13 until I changed it to Arizona_Treasure. I haven't sold on that in quite a while, though; I like Listia better. No hassles here.

It seems back when we were Hippies in the '70's my boyfriend and I encountered ER.."Law Enforcement" more than once --gonna finish my story! when we left Lubbock Texas the Texas Rangers told us to keep driving and don't stop until we crossed the Texas state line! We made it all the way to New Mexico and we decided we were so exhausted we needed to rest--so we camped in the freezing cold somewhere in the Mts. of New Mexico in the back of that VW pickup truck and yes! you guessed it! We were woken up with that BLINDING police spotlight with the New Mexico State Police on a bullhorn telling us there was no camping and we had to leave immediately--WHAT?! OMG! We had to get out of our sleeping bags just to get back into our freezing VW truck just to keep driving out of New Mexico! Oh YEAH--it was because we were HIPPIES! We were "counter-culture" OH YEAH! Yes I wish all wars would stop as a matter of fact! But we did stop "the machine" as Mario Savio said here in Berkeley CA.--(the free speech movement too!) Actually he said "you have to throw yourselves upon the gears of the machine" and that's what we did and stopped the Viet Nam war. Hippies rock! You rock! I rock! Sally rocks! Native Americans rock! Remember Wounded Knee!

Remember Wounded Knee; what the government did was a travesty (both the white government and some members of the reservation thugs who terrorized ordinary natives. The Indians at Wounded Knee were protesting not only white authority, but their own corrupt tribal government honchos. It was a true crime. And I feel so very sorry for that one NA young couple (hippies) who traveled from North Carolina to be part of the Wounded Knee movement. They were only there for a few days when a stray bullet hit the young man and killed him; he wasn't even shooting. I can't remember his name, but it was terrible. Thank you so much for continuing your story, Buster; I love your stories and they bring back so many memories of my own. :)
