The listing, Mother of Pearl pendant -vintage? has ended.

This is a mother of pearl pendant with a silver colored setting. I am not sure if it is sterling silver because I cannot find a stamp anywhere, but it may have been rubbed off from time. This piece appears to be older and possible vintage, but I am not sure. It is 1 1/4" from top to bottom.

have you checked to see if it's magnetic? it looks like opal...

I checked and it is not magnetic. Also, I am fairly certain it is mother of pearl due to the coloring and layering of the material and my experience with things like this! But great questions! =)

"Mother of Pearl" is a term used to describe the inner layers of some mollusk shells when they make beautiful colors. I agree that it looks like it was made from an abalone shell =)

I agree! I wouldn't be getting rid of it, but I have so many necklaces and such so I think it is best to part with some of them. I hope it goes to a good home =)

I doubt that it is plastic or painted because of the brilliance of the colors and the slight texture resulting from the layering of the shell. What is slag metal?
