Description

The listing, Antique Collar Pin (Unknown Stone) has ended.

Hello and welcome to my auction. Thanks for taking a peek at this, this is a pretty special auction ^_^ This collar pin belonged to my great grandmother, she passed away about 5 years ago and my grandmother gave me some jewelry of hers to list. My great grandmother has traveled all over the world, living into her 90's. In the items given to me, it was discovered that necklaces she wore every day were 1900 Pre-Ban Ivory. I am holding on to some but haven't a use for a collar pin so I am sending this back out into the world to continue her memory :)

This Collar pin in gold in color but there are no markings. The closure is a tip with what appears to be wax, the gem could be moonstone but I am unsure. Currently this is all I know about this pin, any info would be greatly appreciated ^_^; She was an amazing lady and I would love to know more about her adventures.

My apologies. Everyone in the house is currently running around like crazy people, we had a bit of a snowstorm last night and are trying to organize how to get to work :)

Ok, I recently let one go just like this for a good many credits. It is an opal (I'm sure it's natural opal) and the reason I really believe this is mine was about 50 years old (grandmothers - I am 55 yo) and I don't think they had 'lab created opal' back in the day. You hang in there and get a few better pics and yours will probably run higher even than mine did (look on my profile, you'll see it under completed auctions) I wanted it back and that's why I asked for a GIN. It's a beautiful piece!!! Just stunning up close and personal; anyone would be proud to wear this gorgeous opal stick pin!! I miss mine!!!!

WOW! The collar pin you have is exactly like the one I am holding in my hand o_O the stone has the same little iridescent flecks. I really wish I could get better photos ^_^; I just have my silly iphone camera....I am hoping to save up for a nicer camera soon T_T I appreciate you stopping by and sharing, I hope it helps users appreciate the quality! :)

I'm sorry, I would like this to get some exposure, I just spent 920 points just making it a premium auction ^^: My goal is to learn what it is, what it might be made out of and how old it is in this auction.

Yes, I thought it was a white Opal, as well, as soon as I saw it. Glad to see how many fellow Listians were happy to help you out!
Blessed be, ~Victor ;-)>

I bought extra credits for this, but decided against it, since it is Tanya's birthstone, I am hoping that she wins it!

There appears to be an indentation on the stick itself, ( approx. 3/4 of the way down), and why is the stick cap at an angle? Is the bottom bent as well? I would love to bid a LOT, but want to know if that is an indentation, and or if it is bent. Thanks very much.

It is slightly bent, the cap sits on an angle because there is wax inside of it, it's just the way I capped it

Hi! I tried to get the photos but it keeps saving it as a web file :( I will see if my boyfriend can figure it out, Listia may have things in place so users can't copy each others photos :'(

This is probably an opal. I have one much like it, including the gold frill about the stone. Mine is opal also. One way to check is to turn in a bright light from side to side and see if you see little shiny flakes that sparkle. Have fun with your auction.

Yes, definitely an opal! What is that around it? It looks like beads.

I was unsure if it was gold or not, as there is no stamp but my grandmother informed me that it is possibly real and was just too old to be properly stamped ^_^ Thank you for sharing, I love rubies :) They are my birthstone and red is my favorite color ^_^

Just realized I said mine was 50 years old, that is not correct. It was put up for me when I was 5 but........ Grandma had it wayyyy before then: Mom says she remembers her wearing it long before it was given to me so as to the age, if I had to guess, (got mine in 1963), add another 20 years to that making it at least 70 years old.... See why I want it back?

My grandmother was 97 when she passed so it makes quite a good bit of sense that it would be that old ^_^ and yes! It is definitely a beautiful collar pin, I can see why you would want another :) I hate to part with it, but it is probably safer with someone else ^^: I can be a tad rough on jewelry when I wear things, I work at a pet store and volunteer a lot, I can't begin to tell you how many necklaces have been snapped by claws, bracelets broken by jumping puppies and earrings yanked out by ferrets and birds ^_^; I try to keep it simple now a days, the less I have that is shiny...the less likely the animals are too attack haha

Use distilled water, though. Otherwise it weakens the opal....... Zombie, since our items are exactly alike, feel free to save/use my pics..... right click and save to your desktop and add to your listing. Officially offering the pics....... I use a fujifilm 1500 10 mega pixels camera, not too awful expensive (about 150 now, they've gone up) but it takes awesome photos of stuff. Good investment....
