Description

The listing, Red Russian Kale, Heirloom variety, MOFGA certified ORGANIC, 12 seeds; aka "Ragged Jack" has ended.

Red Russian Kale (60 days) BRASSICA napus (pabularia group) Open-pollinated, packed for 2013, originally purchased from Fedco Seeds-this is my excess supply.

Oakleaf type, colors purple after frost, leaves will change to dark green if cooked. Known for unbeatable tenderness and flavor, 2-3 foot tall plants are suitable for edible landscaping.

A true heirloom crop, this variety was "called Buda Kale by Fearing Burr in 1863, Ragged Jack by Vilmorin-Andrieux in 1885, and Communist Kale in 2006 by workers at Darthia Farm in Gouldsboro, ME. Russian traders brought this Siberian heirloom to Canada in the 19th century." (Quoted from Fedco catalog)

NOTE: Stock photos shown. Can be planted early for baby greens, or in summer for fall crop. Taste improves after frost. Vigorous and hardy!

FREE SHIPPING for US buyers, will not ship outside of US.

You don't have to worry about fruits and vegetable seeds, it's ornamentals and invasive species that are a problem. Proper labeling / identification and careful packaging is important, sending random seeds in a paper envelope isn't a good idea, you don't want USPS sowing your seeds. ;) thanks a bunch.

Just curious as to why your opposed to mailing these, say, for the cost of a stamp to Canada? This kale looks yummy. Thanks.

Dieasil, my main concern is that I admittedly know nothing about the rules & regulations for shipping plant material out of the US, and just opted for this blanket rule rather than doing the research. I'm a cookie-baking, fort-making grandma, not a business lady! The kale is absolutely yummy, and for sure, if I'd be doing nothing illegal, and not spending more than the cost of a stamp, no problem :D
