Description

The listing, MNH: 1949-LIBERIA, 25-cent AIRMAIL, Sheet of 25 Stamps has ended.

You can try to find this somewhere else -- you won't!
It's Absolutely Perfect! A sheet of 25 [Scott #C65] Liberia, twenty-five cent Airmail stamps (Blue & Black), 1949, MINT, NEVER HINGED, with undisturbed (a 'premium value' condition on stamps printed prior to 1950) full ORIGINAL GLUE, and never folded.

Leader of Liberia from 1944-1971, President William V. S. Tubman (born Nov. 29, 1895; died July 23, 1971) is featured on this airmail issue corresponding with the Type of Regular Issue of 1948-50.
It was engraved (not off-set lithography printed) and is perforated 12 1/2 horizontally and vertically.

NOTE: The color in my scan appears slightly darker blue than on the actual sheet.

Perhaps of interest: This same design was re-issued, in 1958, with the same 25-cent value in Light Green & Black and was perforated 12 x 12 (Scott #C-118).

Upon completion of your PayPal payment, this will ship by Certified, First Class (rigid - small package) Mail.
[That amount will be very close to my exact cost, which varies by zone, without the bother and delay of two trips to the Post Office. Remember, I may be giving this away for free, but it costs money to get it to you in a condition worth collecting!]

If you like this, you should see the triangle (bird) sheet!

I could have torn these apart and put them up one a time for such a low starting bid - they're worth more credits than that per stamp.
But, I couldn't bear to ruin the sheet as a unit.
You sheet collectors out there have a chance at a real bargain!

I put this up to demonstrate what the quality of my auction items can be.
I also needed to acquire my 'merit' badges as a seller.
If this auction goes at all well, I have a variety of duplicate material like, other MNH - Liberian sheets that I'm willing to offer-up, as well, but...that depends on the interest shown.

Apparently, it isn't good enough.

Sadly, it would cost about the same to safely pack and ship 10-20 of these sheets as it does to ship one.
It's not weight. It's just the way it is for size, rigid packing, and postal requirements.
NOTE: I sent a detailed description to the Moderator which I would be happy for her to share, if anyone doubts this. It wouldn't fit in this space. (I've seen how paranoid some of you can be about shipping from reading the forum on the subject. You're down-right scary, at times. YIKES!)

what world are you living in where certification costs 2.80? Delivery confirmation is like .80. Bubble mailers are nowhere near 1.85 each for the size you would need to mail this sheet, and 1st class mail woudlnt be over $2.

You're simply trying to make a profit.

If you're are going to be a stamp collector, you'll need to do more homework.
And, you should watch of what you accuse people of.
"Certified" mail is $2.80.
The Post Office calls it "the REAL world"; not me.
Do you know the difference between "Delivery Confirmation" and "Certified" Mail AND what they can and can not be used on?
Also, check out 'rigid" 1st class package rates (over 3/4"), which is what it turns out to be when sandwiched between two layers of corrugated cardboard to protect against bending, folding, mutilation; then bubble-wrapped; and enveloped.

This sheet has remained a perfect MINT sheet for the 60 years I've had it and I'm not about to have it ruined by some gorilla in handling. I might as well shred it or keep it, if I'm not going to make sure that it arrives in that same perfect condition.

If you expect less, then you don't want my stamps --
and, I wouldn't want you to have them.

StarBaby - There's a difference between "Certified Mail" and "Delivery Confirmation". The biggest difference is Certified Mail requires a signature from the winner before the package will be released in addition to a tracking number. Delivery confirmation is only a tracking number.

A First Class package (it doesn't qualify as a Large Envelope because it won't bend easy) of 12 oz is $3.09. Certified Mail is $2.80, making the shipping cost for just these two items more than the shipping cost the seller requested.

Whitefoote - Just to let you know First Class isn't zoned. Whether shipping down the street or across the country, the package will cost the same; only weight determines the cost. Good luck with your auction!

Thanks.
And, you're right about the zone part. My slip.
(Don't know where that came from - I'm well aware of that?!?)

You can get signature confirmation for less than 2.80. I mail enough stuff to know this.

You can also get mailers that are lined with recycled paper instead of bubble mailers. They are made by ready post or whatever its called. I have some of them. They sell them at my post office for unprepared mailers who need supplies.

And why would anyone spend money on signature confirmation for a sheet of stamps when all you need for proof of delivery is DC?

This could easily go just as safe, fast, and confirmed for $3 as it could for 5 or 6.

As tyhana said:

DC is not allowed on 1st Class RIGID packages.
I'm stuck with "Certified", if it is to be able to be tracked.
It's the only option allowed by the Post Office.

I make the package very rigid to prevent damaged to this old fragile sheet of paper with all those (perforations) holes in it and delicate corners that, so far, are not bent or folded or cracked - in any way.
That's what make the sheet worth collecting as a sheet. If it weren't in that good condition, I would break it up, auction the pieces separately, and avoid the problem altogether.
Envelopes are not reliable for this shipping. If they work, it's just dumb luck. The corner of another package hitting the center can burst perforations without even showing on the package. If don't have another one of these to replace the damaged sheet, it's all over!
So, that's why, it's Rigid - and why it has to be "Certified" - and why that's the cost.

Here is the above quote from whitefoote in a commment above and part of a message sent:
NOTE: I sent a detailed description to the Moderator which I would be happy for her to share,

By the way, it took about an hour and a half to research this answer and more to reply. Since I earn $40+ an hour, it has been very tedious and expensive for me to do it. This is a hobby and I don't need that cost or irritation.

While your question may have be innocent, I suspect (because you are a moderator) that it is not - completely.

I WILL NOT answer another such question that doubts my honesty because of the general ignorance and paranoia of much of your audience about shipping issues.
They need a reality check.
And, they need to know that they don't have to bid on anything, if they don't feel right about any auction.

Nothing particular makes them experts in my area; nor, does it make them liable for what I ship -- I am! I will do it the best I can -- or I won't do it at all.

Curiously, we all know that the customer is often wrong; only, a used-car salesman won't tell them. I wonder why?

With regards and integrity -Whitefoote

Just so everyone knows....I have received a package from Whitefoote...and believe me.....it IS securely packaged! I've been dealing with shipping and receiving for 12 years, and I have NEVER BEFORE received anything packaged so perfectly. In fact, when I think about it....I'm still stunned about it! It took a machete and 2 sticks of dynamite....and I still had to get the axe out to get into the package. AND, what was shipped was a STAMP! That tells you something folks.....you reast assured that whatever Whitefoote sends you, will arrive in PRISTINE condition! It's worth the shipping fee!

Thank you for running defense.
But, I think more than enough has been said.

****** I am a stamp collector - not a junk man.******

You each have to decide for yourselves what you are looking for.

And, I have to decide if it's worth the effort to share philately and philatelic materials on this site.

So far, it's a toss up.

PS - Thanks again, Doodlebug : )
