You can get online with it yes but it will not show color. You can't download apps or games as far as I know. I only had for a month and bought it just to read books lol. I'm a book nerd I know lol.

The screen is 6". The Kindle Fire is touchscreen and works like an iPad, this doesn't. This is mainly for reading digital books.

A lamp would work as well but a book light would only cost you about $4 or $5 and it's portable.

It isn't back lit but you can buy a book light for it. That's what I did and it worked perfect.

This isn't touch screen. The only other Kindle that is touchscreen besides the Kindle Fire is the Kindle Paper white.
