Description

The listing, Custom Hand-Drawn/Hand-Painted Portrait by Emily Sodders (tiered) has ended.

For my premier listing on Listia, I could have posted any number of generic items, or I could make it SPECIAL by listing one of my most popular creative services I offer from my professional art studio: Custom Portraiture! ;) If this auction is in high demand, I may offer it again in the future when my wait-list lightens up.

>>>TIERED AUCTION: For every 500 CREDITS, 1 Square Inch of Art Dimension Allowance will be added to the TOTAL DIMENSION ALLOWANCE, with a MINIMUM OF 4 SQ.IN. and MAXIMUM of 600 SQ.IN. (Example: 2"x2" Art Piece up to 20"x30" Art Piece)

>>>CHOOSE STYLE, MEDIUM, AND SUBJECT from options below:
Styles: Photo-Realism, Realistic Impressionism, Impressionism, Realistic Cartoon, Cartoon
Mediums: Colored Pencil, Graphite, Charcoal, Pastel, Oil Pastel, Acrylic, Oils, Pen & Ink, Digital
Subjects: Nearly anything....just no porn.

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING BEFORE BIDDING!

1. YOU ARE BIDDING ON ORIGINAL, CUSTOM ARTWORK MADE TO-ORDER by and directly from a PRO ARTIST (Emily Sodders of Bird House Studio in Gilsum NH, USA). While art commissions take an average two weeks to create, winner must allow up to 6 weeks for the artist to complete and ship the artwork before leaving negative feedback. Work-in-progress images will be emailed to winner, if requested.

2. Winner must contact artist within 7 DAYS of auction ending to provide the artist with a Listia Verified address and all relevant information regarding the desired art piece; including subject description, medium, desired dimensions based on final credit calculations, and reference pictures of subject, if applicable.

3. All the Art Examples featured above are EXAMPLES ONLY and are COPY-RIGHT PROTECTED. By posting these EXAMPLES, you can readily see the type and quality of the artwork I produce and confidently expect the same for your commission. I may be new to the Listia scene, but I have an outside reputation to uphold. Making art is what I do for a living!

lol - Hey, thanks for giving your website - I'm heading that direction as soon as I'm through here! No problem about the "tips". I was new a few months ago too - lol.

Thanks for liking my auction - I appreciate it a lot. You are sure going to be one of my favorites. I just love art! Do you do portraits of people from picture's? It looks as though you either do or can from looking at these pictures. Again - AWESOMENESS - :-)

Yes, I do typically use photographic reference for my artwork, especially when my intent is create a realistic representation, such as a person's likeness. Many times, a client will give me several photos to work from, and I take the best elements of each to create one perfect composition, details, everything. Capture a memory or multiple memories in one art piece. For example (though I don't have this in the examples above), I recently completed a wedding portrait for a couple who married in a church, but had their first hiking a local mountain. So they had me draw them in full wedding attire on the summit of the mountain- but it looks as though they are really there, since it is so realistic. It might be on my website. I'm kinda lousy at updating the galleries...lol

Thanks for watching/fanning! And thanks for the great tip. For some reason, I was under the impression that I must have some completed listings to get verified, but then I realized my folly by clicking around. Just verified my phone and reached some other status! Well! lol But if that's not good for the other folks, they can always visit my official website: www.emilysodders.com ....I have even more artwork in my Online Gallery and testimonies from many happy clients in my Creative Services page. How's that for some verification? LOL! I do appreciate your tremendous support. I really do hope to offer similar art listings in the future...they really hinge on this one being successful to some extent.

PS. Out of my watch list of like 30 items, your listing just became my fave! Gonna be saving up to make sure I snag it!

You're right- it would make a wonderful Valentine's gift! I have a Christmas gift season (October-December) and a Valentine's gift season (Christmas-V-Day) in which I get a lot of commissions for such. But unfortunately, with as late in the game as I discovered Listia and made this posting, I can't make any promises. There's a lot of factors that will determine how long it takes to complete the art piece:

1. How promptly the winner responds after winning an any correspondence after that. I will be asking questions of about what the winner wants. The quicker I get the answers, the quicker I can set about to the task of creating.

2. Medium and style. Somethings, like an impressionistic painting, have very quick turn-around, even for a moderately large painting. But if you have in mind for a very realistic drawing, it take longer, especially the larger it is. But if the latter is what you desire (and it's the more sought after and valuable option of my work) than I say weigh in favor of what you want versus when you'll get it.

One thing I advise my clients to do when they commission something as a gift a little too late, is to have a secondary gift ready with a surprise. For example, I've had several clients who pre-purchased an appropriate sized frame for the art piece I was making. Then they made a sign to go in it or a letter attached telling the receiver what would be inside the frame soon! I gave one permission to print out a work-in-progress image I had sent, and they used that in the frame to hold the place until the original was finished!

So there's always options. Consider everything. Out of all the factors, though, quick response is key. It's amazing how long some commissions have been dragged out, just because the client was impossible to get a hold of. Check ya' emails often! :)

That will be up to you. I have both canvases and fine, heavy-duty watercolor paper that I use for my colored pencils, because they can take a beating (or, lots of layering!). Depending on your chosen subject (which appears to be a pet portrait right now) and what style you want it in, and/or what medium you want it in will determine the output: paper or canvas. And you aren't limited to paper and canvas, especially in terms of paint. I have painted on a number of different surfaces. Like wood, plastic. I can draw on sand paper, too. Let me know what "effect" you are going for, and I'll make a recommendation. Thanks for bidding!

Yes, you are correct. This item is made-to-order. If you have a specific subject in mind, especially if it is a personal thing, like a pet, a family member, or special place I couldn't easily find reference or stock images for online, then yes, you would need to email me one or more pictures that I could work from, along with any other directions. Hope that helps. :)

Thanks a lot! Yeah, and of course, you can commission something entirely different from what you see examples of. Wedding portraits, home & business portraits, pet portraits, landscapes, family, baby, fantasy and beyond. Anything that's not morally objectionable, I'm open and able to draw or paint. Think on it! ;)

Thanks, but the Deer & Cabin picture was commissioned by someone else and I don't own the original anymore. And the owners live 2,000 miles away from my studio! lol That said, if you win this auction, or choose to commission me outside of Listia, we can work together to design a similar deer + cabin scene art piece. The one you see pictured features a personal getaway that the client owns, and a deer he spotted outside the window, and his favorite old Jeep. We could personalize yours in the same way.

Yes, I *can* do an 8"x10", but the final credit amount *will* be used to calculate what dimensions are available for this custom art auction. So and 8"x10" = 80 Sq. Inches and with each sq.inch = 500 credits (for full color)....500 x 80= 40,000 Credits. It may seem high, but it's a significant discount when compared to the $$$-$,$$$ value of the actual art piece. I just have to make sure it's still "worth my while" to some degree, if you know what I mean. Depending on the final amount and request, I may be more generous towards monochromatic, like charcoal, because it is a much quicker process. We shall see! This is my first time handling a commission like this- so it'll be an experiment! Again, thanks for being part of it!

I do have a Facebook page- and it does stay more updated that my website! Unless I'm stupid- busy with deadlines and then I'm terrible at both! lol I really need an assistant! I have had apprentices in the past, but I didn't have them do my grunt work for me! lol https://www.facebook.com/emilysoddersbirdhousestudio?ref=hl

But I'm very sorry for the loss of your son. My husband and I don't have kids yet, but we work with kids a lot in our respective industries, and so it breaks my heart to hear that- no matter the cause. I have done portraits of the deceased for the parents before, so I understand the emotional challenges in having a portrait done of them and making sure it really represents them as they will forever be in your heart.

Right now, the 2,000 bid will cover a 2"x2" drawing/painting, but I assume you'll want something larger than that...usually a 5"x7" or larger will suffice. (although, it can be done on 2"x2" in color pencil thanks to my array of magnifying glasses).

And yes, my EvangArts is slowly but surely consuming most of my time, so I have been limiting the amount of new commissions I accept to make time for this creative mission work. I'm very excited about it, and thank you for taking the time to read about it. I also send a quarterly eNewsletter that has more info in it. Private message me you email if you would like to subscribe. :)

You have a Dali-esque flare. What is your favorite genre? Who is your most favorable influence? The answer to these questions will let me know if you truly can grasp what I am looking for. You are very skilled there is no doubt. As with all artists some are better at some things at others. My best friend is an artist that owns a museum. She is mad that I am not using her. She just doesn't have what I need to capture the essence of the image that will speak for me and what I stand for for all eternity.....
