these were often used in juke boxes as a way for people that know the owner to get their money back at the end of the week, they would paint the coins, then use them, and have the store/bar owner give them back once he cleaned out the machine, just a fun bit of history, if you ever see a (usually red) painted coin that is older like this, that is probably why
