Included are
1. The ROKU streaming box
2. remote control
3.power adapter cord
4. The box and instructions.

What you will need to purchase to use this is either an HDMI cable or A/V cable (red yellow white cable.) ( It ususally comes with the A/V cable but I can't find it)
-Batteries for the remote.

Yes this is not a cable TV box. it's mainly for hulu, Netflix, Crackle, ect. There is an app for HBO GO which you can only use if you are already paying for HBO and if your specific cable company allows you to have it. I have HBO on my cable but the cable company I have did not support the HBO GO app on roku. It has a lot of other channels some free some cost monthly payments like Netflix. When you sign up for the pay channels you do. Netflix and hulu plus each cost 7.99 a month. There are other free channels on the box but the best ones with the most content are the pay ones.

Few on Amazon reviews of this device (the box) say this tends to run very hot, thought you might have tried it...so why are you parting with it?

The only reason I am parting with it is because I got a streaming blue ray player for Christmas so I don't need the Roku anymore. I have never noticed it running hot and I have had it a year.
