SUPER NINTENDO GAME
Product Information
Super Battleship for the Super NES brings Battleship, the classic board game, to your television screen. Your mission is to become a successful Naval commanding officer by maneuvering your fleet, repairing damages to your ships, and using weapons and strategies to destroy your enemy. The game is divided into two modes of play: Super Battleship and Classic Battleship.
Classic Battleship lets you play using a screen similar to the original board game; you have an overhead view of two square grids, one for you on the left and one for the enemy on the right. After aligning your fleet of five ships on the grid, you will need to aim three shots at the enemy's grid. Then it will be the enemy's turn to fire back and so on and so on. Presumably, the computer cannot "see" the positioning of your ships on the grid, just as the enemy ships are invisible to you. Play continues until either side loses all its ships.
The Super Battleship option takes place in the open seas, giving you an overhead view of the battlefield via a Battleship Command Post. This too is a turn-based contest, but many more features are available, including the ability to advance your fleet and repair your ships. Also, radar, sonar and multiple weapons (main gun, torpedoes, depth charges and missiles) are available, and the perspective occasionally switches to close-up side view. There are seven levels of play with a total of sixteen missions. You'll pursue your enemy through island chains, coastlines, airfields, seaports and other regions while encountering patrol boats, destroyer escorts, destroyers, light cruisers, heavy cruisers, battle cruisers, battleships, submarines, shore batteries, merchant vessels and mines.
