Washingtonia robusta. This palm is a native to the deserts of Mexico, it is one of the fastest growing palms and also one of the easiest to grow from seed. It provides a very tropical appearance and can also make a wonderful conservatory plant. This plant is very hardy and can withstand frost. Can grow in poor soil and is drought tolerant. Germination 5-10 days, sowing depth 1/4”, space plants 4 to 6 feet apart. Full sun to partial shade. Can grow 40 to 60 feet tall. Keep tree trimmed to desired height, can be grown as a bonsai specimen.
Also makes a nice conservatory plant inside when grown in a full sun location. This palm is also very hardy and can withstand several degrees below freezing without appreciable damage. This palm takes drought and poor soil but does grow faster when provided better growing conditions. Hardy to zone 8, they are fast growers and can eventually grow 80-100 feet but can be maintained much smaller when container grown.
