Provenance... Last purchased on eBay.. Origin is authentic Chinese piece. No stopper, or spoon.. I am comfortable with dating this to Early 20th century.. Say between 1920 and 1940.. River / mountain landscape scene on one side, then fishermen / landscape, waterfall, mountain scene on the other side.. Not the highest degree painting, but not all so bad either.. Where idealy, and experienced artist follows traditional fundamentals of the ancient scroll, and sild screen artists.. As ancient fundamentals of painting landscape scenes go, this has it all.. The mountain scenes are center to the painting.. Placement of the water fall complements but does not take away or dominate the mountain scene.. The fishermen and boats are a size that also does not distract and in turn make this a fishing theme.. Central, but ballanced.. As are the trees and bushes.. The artist ballanced each in Tao form, according to ancient funamentals of Early scroll, and silk screen painters.. So although not extreme detail, but the artist was aware of and applied each subject in ballance... So where super fine detail may be lacking, the fundamental traditions of ancient painters is easy to see... Just my two cents !
if it matters, I already have four and most are cheapos, but agreed, crystal and painted inside...just really want another...lol....now watch me lose...just rambling...love the item...blessed be
Thank you for the additional information - I recently attended a local art auction where these snuff bottles (mostly Jade and much earlier) were selling for thousands of dollars..... Best wishes for a successful auction!
Doubt this one is a cheapo! The fine detailed painting inside is very small and detailed. Be nice to see a closer picture of it I might be more persuaded to bid a lot more :) wish it had the top too
