The listing, WWI War Department / US Army Manuals (1911 & 1914)- Free Shipping! has ended.
Two (2) manuals from World War One. Both were printed by the D. Appleton & Company for the United States Army.
One is INFANTRY DRILL REGULATIONS and is dated 1911. It's the bigger book in the photos and it measures 4.25" x 5.5" x nearly .5"
The other is MANUAL OF INTERIOR GUARD DUTY and is dated 1914. It measures 3.75" x 5" x less than .25".
Both are a yellowing olive green and both state they are from the War Department.
They are filled with detailed instructions and drawings on how to be a soldier. Everything from thrusting with a bayonet to marching and using a machine gun.
This type of book was given to the new recruits and these belonged to a young man named HT Daniels Jr because he signed one and wrote Daniels in the the smaller. Other than a few left handed check marks in pencil there is no other writing in them.
Comes complete with a century old paper clip.
If you're into internet sleuthing you might be able to find out more about the young soldier.
