There are two little round puck like objects. One is black like the one standing up and the other is white (the one lying down in the new packaging behind the black one). White is for salt and the black is for the pepper. Each opens into two halves for you to add salt and pepper.

i do not know how much salt and pepper they hold, i have never used a set like this They ,measure 2 inches wide by 2 inches high.
