Another beautiful animal at the Dallas Zoo. Birds have always caught my eye. I have no idea what variety this is, but I enjoyed every minute of sketching and pastelling it. The feathered fella stands on a barren branch with a bright, sunny background.

This is one of my dry media artworks. They are sometimes called "paintings" or "drawings", but the word "Pastel" is the only correct word. As a noun or verb.
Dry pastel (powdered pigment crayons) is my medium of choice. Unlike many traditional practitioners, I don't go for the delicate lightness of the smudgy artform. I love the bright, vibrant colors to capture the moment with a sense of electricity.
