Yes this is backwards compatible. All of the Fat PS3s have playback. They all can play ps2 and ps1 games on them. The other PS3s do not. Only the fat ones do.

CodyElliott I don't really care what games your model will run. I simply was being informative on other questions. Plus, the only thing that matters is that this specific PS3 has playback on it. Whether I was wrong about others is completely irrelevant. Most of the PS3 that have playback were the fat ones because those were among the first ones released. I know for a fact though that out of all models of PS3 software, only 3 have playback on them. There are at least 10 different models for the PS3 in North America alone. International, I'm not sure.
