It adjusts. 17 to 19 inches. Its costume jewelry. If you take care of it well, it should last. Keeping jewelry in a plastic baggie when not being worn prolongs the life. It limits the exposure to the air which over time causes oxidation. Keep it out of tap water (chlorine and chemicals in the water could wear the finish off prematurely).
