STORY OF THE $2 "Toonie"
Canada 2 dollars bi-metallic circulation coin bears an image of a polar bear.
The name does not come from that polar bear instead it comes from the Canada one dollar coin "The Loonie". The Loonie name comes from The Great Northern Diver
(a bird), known in North America as the Common Loon
(Gavia immer), The Common Loon is a large member of the loon, or diver, family of birds. The Toonie name came due to it being a two dollar coin, so "Toonie" is a word
combination from the number "two" and the loonie, Canada's one-dollar coin.
