If you go on line to usps.com (united states postal service) and sign up, you will get a free mailing scale and free postage for signing up. Postage is cheaper on line than in the post office. You can also order the free flat rate boxes and envelopes and have the mail carrier deliver them to your home. You can also schedule to have your postal carrier pick up your packages so you really would never need to go to the post office again. I have also found that if you use a regular box or padded envelope, the shipping is cheaper than the flat rate boxes and envelopes. I order the flat rate boxes and then cover them with shipping paper that I buy at the dollar store. I also buy the large padded envelopes at the dollar store. I compared the medium flat rate box with another box the same size and weight and it was almost $6.00 cheaper for the other box. That adds up over time. I've been doing this for 8 months and I have saved a lot of money, time and gas.
