Description

The listing, RARE and extinct in the wild. The Amazing and beautiful Banana Lotus. Seed Auction GIN extras has ended.

This auction is for 5 very special and rare seeds! See GIN bonus:

You will receive 15 seeds(at least) already in the soil they need. They have been cold stored and are ready to go. You will also receive some special gifts. Perfume, eyeshadow and lip-gloss small sets :) DON'T FORGET I always send extra seeds. At least a few other vegetable seeds and some flower seeds. Or I will add another 5 Banana Lotus seeds for you! I want you to love this auction and be HAPPY!!

As a result of intense agriculture, the natural habitat of Ensete lasiocarpa has become highly fragmented. In fact, truly wild populations are unknown, which is why the species may have to be classified as 'Extinct in the Wild'. The remaining populations are considered to be 'semi-wild' ones. These populations are maintained only through cultivation, thanks to the cultural and economic significance of this species to local people.

With its inflorescence resembling a lotus flower in bud and lasting up to 250 days, the golden lotus banana has become a sacred plant of Buddhist monks in the tropical region of Yunnan.

Help me repopulate these. They are worshipped by the monks for a reason :) They are amazing. They have 100 uses and are beautiful. I believe the most amazing plant in the world. You can eat them, they can be used as pig fodder, they are used for honey production, weaving material, and soil erosion control.

Ok this is not the one I am thinking of but it sure does look like the one that does stink to high heaven when in bloom. Now you got me to read about it and I want one. Would do well where I am in NE by Lake Erie. Does not get extremely hot but it does get humid.

Also meant to ask , do you grow yours in the ground or inside potted ? I live in TN , real hot summers but real cold winters
Feb 27th, 2014 at 1:12:43 AM PST by
Original
both. Tn will be fine for them. Keep them well mulched in the winter and heavy water in the summer. My outdoor ones DO AMAZING. They die though every winter. Then every spring bam there they are but more of them. The root is very very healthy.

Banana, Golden Lotus (Musella lasiocarpa)
Family: Banana (Musaceae)
Protect from frost. Native to Southeast Asia. The potted plant grows to about 4 feet tall and equally as wide. Outdoors, in a prime position, they may get much larger. Flowering usually occurs in the second year, a golden crownlike affair that is really quite sensational. These plants do very well in large pots in the greenhouse, or they can be planted outdoors in the summer and the pups (side shoots) potted up and brought indoors to overwinter. They don't make edible fruit. Used in indigenous cultures for environmentally friendly disposable dinner plates, basket weaving, fodder for stock, and as a medicinal herb (hemostatic). Plant prefers full sun, evermoist soil with a high nitrogen content. Very fast grower. We offer plants in deep pots that should be planted up to larger pots, quickly producing very large individuals.

I live in the south, middle Texas. Would it grow well? It gets hot here in the summertime....high 90'2-low 100's. Would it need to be brought inside in the winter? or left outside.

Isn't this the one that blooms for one day only a year and the smell is putrid? It looks like it.

No. Your are thinking of the death plants. This is nothing like that. Although it would be worth a fortune if it was. This one has a nice light scent and blooms for months and months.
