The Zelda game was the first on the NES to have a memory unit built in the game. Wether or not that works is crucial to its value, the game is still playable without it but you can't save.

The built in memory card still works and the game Is In great shape. The game has only been played a handful of times,

Its not to difficult to replace the battery. There is soldering involved though.
