Description

The listing, 20-21 Beefsteak Tomato Seeds has ended.

You are bidding on 20-21 Beefsteak Tomato seeds. Beef Steak tomatoes come in two forms round shoulders & flattened. This is a round shouldered variety. Although these tomatoes can weigh in at a lb or more, most weigh in between 9-12 oz.
The back of the original package is included with the seeds for more information.
This variety germinates in 15-20 days & should be sown at a depth of 1/4 inch, seed spacing (if you intend to thin the seedlings) is 1/2 inch.
When plants are set out spacing should be 14"-24' apart for staked plants (If you have 2-3 strong plants together allow for extra room, dividing the plants may cause a major stress ) & 24" to 36" apart for unstaked plants. 3' is the recommended spacing between rows. Plants are indeterminate & grow over 6' long. Trellising may help.
Plants should be transplanted into the garden when they are 6-8 inches in tall & all danger of frost has passed by 1-2 weeks.& night temperatures are 50F or more.
Before transplanting, harden off plants by reducing the amount of water and fertilizer they receive (basically you want to slow down their growth so that they suffer less shock when planted outside)
Transplant your plants before the plants begin blooming for a better yield.
Set the transplants as deep as the first leaves. More roots form on the newly buried plant & it improves the plant's ability to obtain water and nutrients.
Mulch plants in the garden. Remove black plastic mulch when temperatures exceed 80 degrees F. or use heavy mulch over it.
Water the roots, not the foliage or fruit to avoid splitting the fruit. Consistent moisture is important.
