These were taken at a time when having photos done was very costly , so they were done only on special occasions . These were taken to remember and document a child , probably the only photo ever taken of the child .

these photos are from an era of time when people were required to sit perfectly still for up to 20 minutes. How many children can sit completely still that long? None that I know of. These are the only pictures that these parents probably have of their children. Pictures were very costly back then and not many people wanted to have a picture of children made that were blurry. I have seen plenty of family photos where just the baby was a blur because he moved ever so slightly. The eyes were left open so that the baby would appear as close to the way they were before they died.
