This is a sable colored mink. It looks like it is in pretty rough condition in a few areas. I can tell it absolutely needs to be taken care of. It looks like it was never put into cold storage in the summertime. Mink is a wonderful lifetime fur and longer but must definitely need to be handled with care and cautiousness. Whoever wins this lovely needs to take it to a furrier for the lining looks in bad condition and cleaning it may work and may not. It does have some stains. It looked like the fur itself has a couple of spots that need attention as well. Once this baby is reconditioned, any woman with a formal affair in the winter would love to be seen with this sable beauty. Sable is the most popular in all minks.

Thank You for commenting, However I need to make some corrections in your assumptions of this fur, I am not a furrier and you are probably correct about the storage of this fur from the previous owner, ( I cant say) I live a part of Texas that does not have a cold storage for furs, believe me I have checked into it.. I will say the lining of mink is in perfect condition, otherwise I would have pointed that out..(maybe the pictures led you to think that) there is a rip on the shoulder as pointed out
in my listing, I don't want any false information to be interpreted. This is NOT a sable type mink. Pictures of fur are difficult to get perfect.. but just so everyone knows nothing wrong with the lining

It appears in the photos to have four small stains on the lining was all I meant to say or the photos make it look that way. As color goes...there are no mahogany mink, unless that is a new breed in the last 19 years. They are called sable. My grandfather raised mink for these purposes and I have had a lot of training in the colors. However if you wish to call it a Mahogany mink fine but you need to look into mahogany mink I know I will for I would love to see one. The dark brown color is a sable mink which is also the most prized and wanted color of mink for as many years as I have been alive. I do apologize in the fact that I do not know what I am talking about when it comes to mink. My 20 plus years with him in the furrier business gives me no clout. And if you look at your own photos you do show a small tear on the shoulder area and yes you did point that out I just thought that there was small area near the lower on one of the sides has the "appearance" of needing some type of repair but maybe that was another photo of the shoulder instead. Again I am only speaking of your own photos I do not know without holding the mink and inspecting it in my site as to the shape of it. Please do not take offense. I was not trying to talk down about this fine piece of fur at all. I was only stating what I could see thru the lense of a camera. Please look on here at your photos not at the photos themselves and you can see it does appear to have three or four small stains on the lining which is usually fine once it has been cleaned by a furrier. I wish you nothing but the best in your auction and I do think you have a lovely piece of the past that is absolutely beautiful.
Happy Day :)

No offense taken, I guess I didn't make clear, concerning the color. What I meant was the color itself is a dark mahogany there are many minks classified as mahogany, not necessarily as type of fur but color. The small stains are not stains that is a floral like print on the lining. And I have researched the Sable family of mink and as you said its very sought after and also very $$$$. Just didn't want to make unsure statements. Thank you for your comments and I certainly have no ill feelings
Have a great day

Wow I imagine the brand of this stole is a very high end since the time was taken to embellish the lining! I would definitely buy this one had I the credits to do so. I must say you won an amazingly beautiful item in your estate sale! Why do I never get that lucky? Oh that's right you have to have good luck for that and I do not have any good luck ever! I sure wish I could take it off your hands for you! Even tho I would have no use for it in a stole, it can absolutely be remade into a beautiful hat and muffler and even enough left over for the scarf too. I am very impressed tho with this. I guess that is what keeps me coming back and talking about it. I honestly thought they were stains not flowers LoL...d'oh on me huh! I hope this auction brings your a ton of credits. I hope you have more good fortune!
Happy Day :)

Thanks Dovey,
It was surprising to me that there is no label on the stole, I have bought and sold other vintage minks and they all had labels and most had initials. This estate sale was from a local prominent lady...and she knew my love for minks. so I just had to get them and I wanted to share this one here on listia as well as a couple of others

Wow too generous my dear! I would rather you put these in with the antiques and with free shipping people there will go crazy for one and if it was me I would just put up two seperate if you are getting rid of it on purpose. This is way generous in my mind knowing what the price are on these to get from a store!!! You are more generous than I am for sure LoL! Also I fanned you I forgot to tell you LoL!
Happy Day :)
