Red Star Morning Glory aka Cardinal Climber Vine Lot of 10+ Seeds! Compact & Gorgeous Morning Glory! Hummingbird Magnet! Plant Description: I. coccinea originates in the arid to semi-arid regions of Mexico. It is in the Convulvaceae family. Red Star is a rather diminutive vine but is still nothing short of dazzling! It is a vine from 6-10 ft long and twining. Unlike the I. quamoclit (Hummingbird vine/Cypress Vine) to which the flowers are somewhat similar, this one has the usual heart shaped leaves common to the Morning Glories. Although small in comparison to many in the family the flowers of this species are nothing short of spectacular. The coloration is amazing! The flowers are born in clusters on short stems and are produced in profusion throughout the growing season. They have a brilliant red corolla with a rich orange inside the tube. The outer portion of the tube is a lovely yellow/orange. The stamens protrude prominently from the corolla and with age the corolla curves backwars exposing them even more. It's obvious that the intended pollinator is hummingbirds but butterflies seem fond of the flowers as well. This is a perfect morning glory for allowing to grow among bushes in the landscape as it's not invasive enough to choke anything out. The bright flowers add a nice touch to anything. This one is a personal favorite and is sure to please!
