Picture #1 shows it in working condition, you will receive it with the batteries, so it will not only be working, but you'll know what type of batteries to purchase when it's time for replacement.
When you press the button on the right hand side, it automatically lifts up like a periscope, and the light turns on. When you are done using it, you must manually close it.
It clips onto the book you are reading for hands-free comfort.
The little trap cover on the back is where the batteries are housed and it takes 3 hearing-aid style batteries.
