Most of the time they are red! But you will find that in bone china and in pottery they are not in color just simply "stamped" in to the piece. In Japanese the letters are always underneath eachother especially in true Kotobuki. If they are describing a particular Dynasty then you will have the artist name in one line and the Dynasty in the next in a type of Square...I have pieces a far back s the 1400's. I also take true antique furniture and refurbish them back to their original state with out mucking up their value as much as I can(some pieces have breaks in legs etc...I do lose some value on them....(People think things are junk and give them to me. They want it hauled off their property...these precious babes have been soooo neglected... I take care of them:)
That's really cool! It's nice to see someone so enthusiastic about pottery and china. I collect a lot of tea cups and such (since I love brewing tea) and it's always nice to drink it out of a pretty cup. Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain that this plate is a replica; it doesn't have a red stamp on it.
Draragon I do and am. I sent you a longer response via messages. Have you ever seen kotobukitrading.com I love their selection. They had a shop in Seattle I saw one time I was there. So few good sources in the US. Glad more Japanese stores are shipping to the states.
I really like this series of plates, but I think I have this one. I have so much that I don't have displayed. I too lost a few to cats and mostly my dogs. Lost an entire Iga-ware tea set thanks to two of my dogs, my brother & sister trouble twins.
DadaMonk I saw you on another I was scoping ...Are you a collector as I. I was about to flag the sword but you must have beat me to it. there is NO WAY that would be allowed here and no fool would auction one here. I collect tem as well. Are you a practitioner too?
Paula, Do they have the official stamp on the plate? My cat broke mine. It just so happens that this is the one I need. At this point I could care less if it is a replica. I was just curious. Excellent auction!!!!! F & W &B
Paula anything that is a true antique from China or Japan has a stamp actually in the design Just for the info... But I LOVE this....As I said before at this point I do not care if it is a replica or not because my half Lynx/Half domestic mix broke mine.....She is a beauty;)
I think I know what you mean, now. It's characters inside a circle, yes? If they are always red, then I'm afraid not. However, if you look at the 4th picture, there is a black symbol like that. I can try to take a better picture if you'd like.
Paula I am a HUGE tea enthusiast.......So Yeah!!!!!!! I began as a Naturopath many years ago and am a surgeon... but I still work wholistically I am known as an integrative healer. I am obsessed.... with the whole true ritual of tea....So it is good to know another out there..... I am always teaching others about it. It is a true experience. My teas I get are actually from the countries as well and all hold their true medicinal properties... and there are certain ways to brew each one....It brings me peace and joy..... as I said about this piece I could care less at this point if it is a replica... It just looks goofy with out that one piece displayed.... I think....
Oh! Dear;P RiShi on line is a good investment they teach others how to harvest and make money in their own area. To be self sufficient!!!! What you get on line is more than what you will ever see on any shelf.... that is the best I have seen in America.... I peek my head out and see what is up. Republic of tea are coming up in some of their things.... they changed their tasters around made some necessary changes.... It will be interesting to see what happens.... What kind of thins do you enjoy? How do you brew your teas. Did you know each tea type needs different brewing variances not just water temp... but actually what you brew them with? I am glad I found this and can talk to you.. This is fun!
