So this does not have to be used in a wi-fi hot spot area?

This is DSL with a Cell phone. which means in most places you get a cell phone connection you should be able to get online too. I used this in my Tractor trailer and only had a few places where i could not get a signal from Verizon.

If you have WiFi and the air card you can pretty much get online from almost anywhere using both devices. Where one will fail the other will pick up the slack.

This might be just what i need for my laptop in our rural area and for travel... current verizon service plan with current device is $59/mo PLUS all the taxes.
