This is a really interesting fruit. Each seeds is in its own little gel pouch. Some people eat the gel and spit the seeds out although every part of this plant is edible. I didn't like eating it with the seeds but I put sugar on it and eat the gel part. It tastes sort of like a sweet cucumber mixed with some other fruits, very distinctive.

The plant is a very vigorous vine that likes it hot. It's provides a source of water in the Kalahari desert in the summer. The fruits can sometimes be hidden behind the vines so look for them. They are green on the outside when unripe and turn an orange yellow when ripe. You should definitely try this in your garden!
