Description

The listing, Antique Yarn Winder has ended.

This winder came in a box with my sock knitting machine and was used to wind skeins into cones for smooth feeding to the machine. I have new-fangled tools for that job so I'm offering this auction.

The winder works! Made of cast iron with a steel shank, stapled leather drive band and a brass clamp key. The bobbins are mismatched and in fair, but usable condition. This could be used as a tool or as a conversation piece.

so you need to have a swift to feed the skein to the winder?

Swifts are very handy tools to have, but you could still use the chair or friend method because you're controlling the speed of the winder. Thanks for asking!

Date of manufacture?

There are no stampings to indicate date or manufacturer. The sock machine it came with is a Legare, popular in the late 1800's - early 1900's.
