Description
The listing, Antique Vintage Cast Iron Sad Iron with Rest Vintage Barn Farm Decor Doorstop has ended.
This old sadiron looks great on display. Makes a great doorstop too. Has a #8 on the handle which I assume is for the weight--this iron weighs almost 8 lbs!
The patina is great. This iron has got to be at least 100 years old but I'm not positive. Please study the pictures for the best description
Questions & Comments
WOW! My great-grandmother had a couple of those. We used them as doorstoppers to keep the wind from closing our apartment door. Brings back memories. It was also a potential defense against unwanted visitors, lol. Definitely watching. Great item!!
Hey licking fox, I did not get the machine, but the treadle and about 22 years ago it disappeared out of storage and on christmas reappeared with a gorgeous red cherry and oak butcher block top .. compliments of my son. then a Senior in high school. Needless to say nobody better come anywhere close with a knife to my butcher block. Talk about a Love gift. My grandmothers treadle and a butcher block handmade by own son!!!!!!
I have two of the antique irons but mine are both black cast iron. I have them both on the top edge if my kitchen stove. Have had them for years. If I remember correctly one was my great grandmother and the other one was my grandmother. As for her she had 2 treadle machines and one was my sisters and the other mine. My grandpa married a woman and when she saw we had them for some stupid reason my mother took BOTH Singer treadles to his house for her...both??? then a week later they disappeared!!! Major loss there for sure!
Wow! My Mom and Grandma have a few of these! Put 'em in the fire, slip the cover (bottom) off and iron away! Those were some tough, wonderful women! I wouldn't give mine up, though, you never know when we might have to use them again. :) This is a great find for whoever wins this auction!
