A vintage miniature LANE Cedar Chest from Kellogg - Buck Furniture, Inc of 924-26 West Douglas, Wichita, Ks. These little boxes were traditionally presented to all Senior girls as advertising promotions. The idea was that they would encourage young women to buy the full sized version of a Lane cedar chest for their hope chest from a Lane furniture dealer.
These Miniature chests were ideal for holding small treasures and mementos from high school while the large "hope" chests were sold to young women to hold mostly linens and households items needed in anticipation for a future marriage - thus the "hope". I haven't heard of any modern young woman using a hope chest in several years.
This miniature chest measures Measures 8 7/8" x 4 7/8" x 3 1/4" and I have NOT polished it. I'm sure that many of the scuffs will improve with a gentle polish. The hinges are tight and working and it's clean inside. Best of all is that the KEY IS INCLUDED (usually they get lost over the years).
