There are more Moso Bamboo Trees on the earth than any other kind, and the giant Moso Bamboo forests of China are used to build residential houses. The Moso Bamboo Tree's diversified commercial use is the most important in the world and varies from food to heavy construction, tubing for aqueducts and gas. The height of this Bamboo Tree can be 38-70 ft. tall depending on the soil it's planted in, and the roots of the Moso Bamboo Tree are used to make walking sticks and umbrella handles.

This Bamboo Tree has the ability to grow underneath other trees. The leaves of the Moso bamboo are cold hardy even below freezing temperatures with snow and ice. It can form a dense privacy barrier that will grow easily 30 feet tall. The poles produced by the Moso Bamboo are highly desired for its use in decorative furniture crafting. Bamboo beer is now being produced from Moso bamboo.

It can grow up to 47 inches in one day and close to 80 feet in 40 to 50 days. Culms reach maturity within three years, although "most farmers prefer to harvest the culms or poles by the fifth year [... or later], citing a stronger finished product," according to the UC Davis Extension. This is much faster than hardwood, which may not be ready to harvest for 40 to 60 years.

See PICs for a few examples of bamboo use.
