I've read the Seth books and learned much from them, but some of the Jane books are even better. Seth can be tedious in comparison to Psychic Politics. I recommend The Seth Material, Seth Dreams..., Adventures in Consciousness and Psychic Politics, more or less in that order (although Seth Dreams was published much later). Adventures and Psychic Politics apply Seth/Jane's ideas to real life events in Jane's life, described in a vivid way that gives these books an added dimension, making them more immediately "real" and a true pleasure to read.
Thematically, I would summarize the ideas in this book as a system in which one learns to view the "aspects" of the psyche independently of any preconceived "frames" such as religious dogma. This approach is so profound and so sane that most belief systems seem trite in comparison. Jane is at her most enlightened here. I strongly recommend this book and the ones that lead up to it; read this after Adventures in Consciousness to get the most out of it.
