The listing, WWII Navy & Army Censor, GIN 2,000 has ended.
Two old covers from war time era, both airmail, one envelope is stamped the other on postal stationary as follows:
On airmail striped border red and dark blue with red six cent airmail stamp and US NAVY postmarked March 11, 1945, blue stamped PASSED BY NAVAL CENSOR with the hand written initials of the military person who inspected the contents of the envelope as this was a much practice routine. (See below for detailed explanation.) From Ensign Willman on the ship USS Champion AM314 (see below again),
USS Champion AM314
The ship was the first of 32 vessels of the Auk class ordered for transfer to Great Britain under Lend-Lease, and designated British Minesweeper HMS Akbar (BAM-1). Twelve of these ships were retained for service in the U.S. Navy.
Regarding CENSORED maill:
During World War II, fear of enemies obtaining secret information through the mail caused censors (Army and or Navy Examiners) to monitor letters that soldiers sent home, cutting out anything that could possibly give the enemy information. Even the traditional symbols for hugs and kisses Xs and Os were cut from letters because officials worried that the pattern could be a code explaining troop positions or ship movements.
