The listing, WWII OPA BLUE 1 POINT RATION TOKEN LETTERS TX has ended.
Up for your consideration is an antique, WWII, United States, Office of Price Administration (OPA) war rations blue 1 point token, with the letters "TX" on it. These tokens were designed and distributed to American citizens as a way to enable merchants to issue change back from purchases that were being made with their War Ration Coupons. Blue tokens were used for processed food; red tokens for meats and fats. The OPA's were first issued in 1944 and stopped being used in 1945. No one seems to have found a true reason for the letters on the OPA's. Theories include that they are random, for demographic purpose, and prevention of counterfeiting.
The known blue letter combinations are: CC, CH, CT, CV, CX, HH, HU, HV, HX, HY, TC, TT, TU, TV, TX, UU, VV, WC, WH, WT, WU, WW, XX, YY with the rarest of the blue tokens being marked with WW, WC, and WH, followed by WU and HX.
Though not offered here in this auction, I will provide the following red letter combinations as well: HC, HT, MV, MM, TH, TY, UC, UH, UT, UV, UX, UY, VC, VH, VT, VU, VX, VY, XC, XH, XT, XU, XV, XY, YC, YH, YT, YU, YV, and YX with MV being the rarest follows by MM, followed by YC and XC.
Note OPA tokens stamped in error (like "double die" or incorrect struck) do command a higher value among collectors. Always something to keep an eye out for if you happen to be rummaging through some coin box at a flea market with these in it!
This OPA token will come to you mounted in a 2x2 and shipped to you for free within the USA only. I am sorry but I do not ship outside of the USA. The token in the photo is the actual token you will receive. Please ask all questions you may have prior to bidding as I do not accept returns or bidders remorse, unless I have grossly misrepresented an item. Thanks for looking and Happy Spring! :)
