This is a Canadian 25 Cent coin. From 1870, when they were first minted, until 1919 they were made of Sterling Silver (92.5% silver). From 1920 to 1967 they were made of 80% Silver. In 1967 they made some out of 80% silver and some out of 50% silver. In 1968 they made some out of 50% silver and some out of nickel. From 1968 forward they are made of 100% nickel, until the mint began using nickel plated steel in 1999.
