Description
The listing, Antique Trivet- Bless This House has ended.
Metal trivet, black, it is 6 1/ " wide by 7" high. It says "BLESS THIS HOUSE OH LORD WE PRAY MAKE IT SAFE BY NIGHT AND DAY." It has a leaf design at the top and bottom. This will be the last one I put on for awhile. I only have a few left and some are extremely heavy.
Questions & Comments
I was ask how to tell an old trivet from a newer one. First look at the whole thing and see if it is kinds rough finished, they were had made usually and the ones that were cast in a mold were never perfect. There will be a roughness or blemish, also look at the picture content. you can tell if it is made to look old or truly old, because they "pretty up" newer ones. The paint is better quality on newer ones. Most old ones are just 1 or 2 colors. And the main thing is most new ones are plastic. THey don't use them to protect the dining table anymore.
Oh, Maribeth, I feel bad, think I got you hooked on trivets, lol. They are lovely things to look at and don't take up lots of room to collect. The best part is you can put them in different locations and change the whole look of an area.
Hi there.. I just wanted to say I am following your auction, & others here on Listia that I have found (similar) I appreciate all the info you shared here, & agree whole heartedly with what you had to say regarding old vs new trivets... They just cannot make things now-a-days the way they did back in day... I have this same trivet, it has been in my family since I was little, & I am not 100% certain where my mother got it from... Mine is only a teeny bit different in design than yours here, the verse is the same, it is made from cast iron & is black... You can tell by looking at it that it is very old, I LOVE antiques of many types, I have some kitchen items, a couple pieces of furniture & one very old oil painting which are dearly treasured... I did consider posting my trivet for auction to give someone else the chance to give it a good home, yet I have not decided to do so for sure as of yet... I just wanted to share with you & the other watchers here, & wish you luck on this... Take Care & God Bless... Happy Easter ~Angel~
I am glad I found this place, seems everyone is so friendly. I am finding homes for some of my most dear to me treasures. I know my time is getting limited here and I have been giving away, to family members and dear friends, my treasures. My son and grandson have been given what they like and will keep, and I don't want these things just tossed away, they mean to much to me, so this is great. I give the credits to my grandson and he is happily bidding on games.
