You are bidding on 1 Packet of Seeds - Organic Heirloom Yellow Pear Tomato (400mg).
I grow and harvest my own seed but sometimes I am given seed packs by friends and relatives, I try some and others I list for auction. This seed pack is one that I was given and since I already grow these I am offering this one up for auction. The Packet contains 400mg of seeds - that is about 11-16 of these seeds.
The Pear tomato is the common name for any one in a group of indeterminate heirloom tomatoes. It originated in Europe in the 1700s. There are yellow, orange, and red varieties of this tomato; the yellow variety being most common and I think the best tasting. They are generally sweet, and are in the shape of a pear, but smaller, about an inch in length.
Pear tomatoes are commonly eaten raw, but can also be used as a garnish, as an ingredient in many different salads, cooked dishes and sauces, or often in drinks.
The pear tomato originated in Europe in the 1700s. Within the next century both England and the United States were introduced to the fruit. In 1752 records show the English using it for flavoring soups.
The first recorded yellow pear tomatoes were grown in Europe in 1805. In 1825 the Hudson Bay Company's, Fort Vancouver, once the headquarters of the fur trade in the Northwest, operated a seven-acre farm filled with flowers, herbs, vegetables, and fruits, among which was the yellow pear tomato. So you know that this delicious tomato has been enjoyed in the US since before it was the US!
